Symbolism
Red, white and blue reflect our national colors. Red is emblematic of courage and action, white is for integrity and the blue reflects devotion to duty plus it is the flag color of the organization's home state, South Carolina. The palmetto palm branches refer to South Carolina's nickname, the Palmetto State. The torch, with its flames adapted from the Statue of Liberty, highlights freedom and leadership. The lightning bolt represents swiftness of response. The column embodies support and the crossed swords symbolize military preparedness, strength, and the Group's vital support mission to our Warfighters.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was authorized effective 16 September 2006.
